What is a “Master Naturalist” you say?

In short, a Master Naturalist is a certified volunteer who is passionate about nature and is eager to share their knowledge with others. If you are interested in ecology and natural history of the Arizona Central Highlands, would like to learn more, and would like to invest your time in working with others of a similar mind, you can develop your skills and leadership through participation in the 2024 Arizona Central Highlands Master Naturalist Course.

Over two years, the Central Highlands Chapter of the Arizona Master Naturalist Program has graduated 32 people who have been volunteering for various organizations in the community – including Prescott Creeks. Christina Brooks, Phil Taska, and Andie Rorick AZMN graduates, have spent significant time volunteering in activities that include: Granite Creek Cleanup coordination, visitor management, bird monitoring, trail maintenance, removal of invasive species, and ecological restoration at Watson Woods Riparian Preserve. Andie even joined the Prescott Creeks Board of Directors!

Of the program, Phil Taska says:

“If you are at all interested in the natural world of the Central Arizona Highlands ecoregion, take this course. Led by experts, I found the Arizona Master Naturalist classes always informative, thought-provoking, and even entertaining (we all shared more than a few laughs!) And, I made some new friends along the way….”

The Central Highlands Chapter of the Arizona Master Naturalist Program is a partnership administered by the Highlands Center for Natural History. Partners include: Heritage Park Zoo, Natural History Institute, Highlands Center, the US Forest Service, Sharlot Hall Museum, Arizona Wildlife Federation, Friends of the Verde River, City of Prescott, and Prescott Creeks.
