The Prescott Fire Department (PFD) and the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority (CAFMA) enacted Stage I fire restrictions effective 5/21/2026.
There are approximately 50 miles of named creeks within the Prescott area that could be negatively affected by wildfire. Please do your part to be safe by using care when visiting creeks, lakes, and natural areas.
Of particular concern for Prescott Creeks is the Watson Woods Riparian Preserve – which has experienced multiple wildfires during the past 30 years. The 1997 Preserve wildfire originated in the Sundog Industrial Park at the upstream boundary of the Preserve and severely burned approximately 40 acres (~30%). A careful observer can still find evidence of this fire when visiting the Preserve. 2005 saw a less extensive fire from a similar origin point.
